Biggest Little Foodie Destination

Last month Yelp announced its 10th annual Top 100 Restaurants list and per capita and otherwise Reno, NV swept up with three restaurants listed in the top 50. Up against metropolitans of millions of people and thousands of restaurants lil ol’ Reno (population: 270K) truly stands out as a dark horse culinary destination not to be dismissed for outdated impressions of cheap casino buffets and Reno 911 dives.

Also an especially notable acclaim given the last few years of pandemic and labor shortage disruption in the restaurant industry to see our dining scene rebound so remarkably is more than encouraging. And for the entire state including the culinary powerhouse that would be Las Vegas, Reno’s three top rankings out paced Sin City’s two.

#19 on the Yelp 100 list is ARARIO in Midtown at 777 S. Center St (second floor) Homestyle Korean and Asian-fusion. Top dishes: Kimchee Fries, Crab Tofu, Seoul Cheesesteak Sandwich, Beef Shortrib Galbi.

#33 on the Yelp 100 list is RICE BOX KITCHEN in Midtown at 555 S. Virginia St. Another Asian-fusion with Thai influence serving handmade dim sum. Top dishes: Shabu-shabu, Coconut Curry Soup, 5-Spice Pork over Rice with Egg.

#45 on the Yelp 100 list is LA CONDESA EATERY at 1642 Wells Ave. Contemporary fare mixed with Mexican influences, art and music as part of the dining experience. Top dishes: Tri-tip Tacos, Chopped Thai Salad, Gnocchi ‘al cilantro’, Pork belly bao steamed buns.

Yelp comes up with the list each year by first asking the Yelp community to submit their favorite U.S. restaurants. Then, its team of data scientists looks at those picks in conjunction with ratings, number of reviews, and volume of submissions — as well as a geographic representation — before reaching out to its own Yelp community managers to lock in the ranking.

Congratulations Reno!!
